A couple weeks ago, one of my clients asked if it was ok to pass along my name to a close family friend who needed help with their insurance.  They were very relieved when I said yes.  A referral doesn’t just help me build my practice, it also helps someone ensure that their friend, family or colleague is properly taken care of.  Just in case you didn’t already know – I love helping new clients and the foundation of my business is built on referrals.   And for those out there who have referred business to me in the past – THANK YOU, a referral is truly the greatest compliment!

According to the 2013 LIMRA Canadian Life Ownership Study, 47% of Canadians never worked with an insurance advisor.  In addition, 29% of Canadians have never been approached by an advisor.  While 45% of households say that they need more life insurance, one main reason why they haven’t gone out looking is because they dread the high pressure sales tactics that some agents use. The main reason why these same individuals don’t buy insurance is because they do not understand what products to buy or how much to buy.

These statistics illustrate that far too many Canadians have not had the opportunity to obtain the insurance advice they deserve.   They are likely just hoping that they have adequate coverage through their group benefits, depend on mortgage insurance through a lender or have no coverage at all.   Insurance can be boring and complicated, but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored.  I also understand that the topic of insurance is not very exciting and too many people don’t know they need it until it’s too late.  This is why I encourage you to tell your friends and family about the coverage you have and why you purchased it.  Every time I meet a new client, I hear the “I didn’t realize insurance covered that” or “Why didn’t I know about this sooner?”. Help those you care about become proactive and protect what matters most to them.   If you don’t help them, there is a good chance that they will never take the steps to obtain proper coverage.
