myHSA™ – Health Spending Account (HSA)

A tax-efficient way to cover medical expenses. Claims are reimbursed 100% tax-free, and eligible expenses include dental, vision, professional services, and hospital-related costs.

myWSA™ – Wellness Spending Account (WSA)

A taxable account designed to promote healthier lifestyles. Cover expenses like gym memberships, wellness programs, personal development, and more—fully customizable to your team.

myFlexplan™ – Flexible Spending Account

Combines an HSA with additional options like a WSA or RRSP contributions, allowing employees to allocate benefits based on their individual needs.

myASO™ – Administrative Services Only (ASO)

A customizable structure that allows for both taxable and non-taxable benefits, with detailed control over categories, limits, and annual allocations.

What Can Be Claimed?

A Health Spending Account can reimburse a wide range of eligible medical expenses. Below are some common categories. Eligibility is based on CRA guidelines and plan administration requirements. Certain items may require a prescription or supporting documentation.

What’s Covered Under a Health Spending Account (HSA)

  • Dental examinations, oral hygiene, X-rays, and gum treatment
  • Fillings, root canals, and extractions
  • Dentures, including repair and replacement
  • Crowns, implants, bridges, and oral surgery
  • Orthodontics, including braces
  • Other eligible dental expenses with valid service dates

Purely cosmetic procedures are not eligible.

  • Prescription medications dispensed by a licensed pharmacist
  • Certain drugs and devices obtained through Health Canada’s Special Access Program
  • Medicinal cannabis
  • Vaccines
  • Diabetic supplies and devices
  • CPAP devices and supplies
  • Needles and syringes
  • Oxygen and related equipment
  • Hearing aids and batteries
  • Heart and blood pressure monitoring devices
  • Oral appliances customized by a dentist or orthodontist

Some listed items require a prescription to qualify. Over-the-counter medication is not eligible

  • Eyeglasses and contact lenses
  • Laser eye surgery
  • Optician, optometrist, and ophthalmologist services

Some vision-related items require a prescription.

  • Ambulance charges to and from hospital
  • Hospital bills
  • MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray treatments
  • Eligible medical testing, including certain lab and diagnostic tests
  • Medical services provided outside Canada, where eligible
  • Acupuncturist
  • Audiologist
  • Chiropractor
  • Chiropodist
  • Dietitian or registered nutritionist
  • Kinesiologist
  • Massage therapist
  • Naturopath
  • Nurse
  • Occupational therapist
  • Osteopath

Services must generally be provided by a qualified or registered practitioner, where applicable.

  • Addiction treatment programs for drugs, alcohol, or gambling
  • Certain medically necessary cosmetic or reconstructive procedures
  • Completed COVID tests processed by a lab or pharmacy
  • Braces for limbs or spine
  • Crutches
  • Wheelchairs and scooters
  • Orthotics and orthopedic shoes or boots
  • Support hose and compression stockings
  • TENS / electrotherapy devices
  • Prosthetics and artificial limbs
  • Incontinence supplies
  • Bathroom aids
  • Hospital beds for home use
  • Power lifts for vehicles or buildings
  • Wigs for qualifying medical reasons
  • Baby breathing monitors where medically required

Some items require a prescription, doctor confirmation, or written certification.

  • Home care for illness or disability, where medically required
  • Private medical clinic membership or access fees, where they are prepayments for eligible medical expenses
  • Employee-paid premiums for private health, dental, and vision plans
  • Gluten-free products for celiac disease, subject to documentation requirements
  • School costs for individuals with mental or physical impairments, where certified
  • Eligible travel expenses to obtain medical services
  • Doctor’s notes or forms completed by a physician
